I know what you mean. Funny thing is..on a few occasions recently...I have actually heard the term used in some older television shows. I was floored!!!! It's funny how I never noticed the word before...and since J.Rube and her Rube stories...I do now.

i tutor at sylvan. to check for phonetic awareness, we have kids read nonsense words to make sure that they can follow the phonetic rules.
